Our story began when Henry M. Schmuck, along with business partners Jacob Wirt, John Grove, Henry Eichelberger, and Edward E. Young, founded Schmuck Lumber Company to supply lumber to the rapidly growing Hanover community. The company’s first lumber yard was located on Frederick Street, where lumber arriving from Pennsylvania’s forests was transported by river, rail, and wagon before reaching local builders. Just one year later, the business moved to its current North Railroad Street location, where it has proudly served generations of homeowners and contractors ever since.

What started as a lumber yard quickly became much more.
As the needs of homeowners and professional builders evolved, so did Schmuck Lumber Company.
